About the Author: Patricia Ramirez
I am a senior nursing student, at the University of Cincinnati, with a desire to continue to participate in nursing research and fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. For future plans, I have my sights set on becoming a nurse anesthetist and earning a Doctorate in Nursing or possibly a PhD. I know that through nursing I can accomplish much for others and myself, and also give my community a healthier, happier, environment for the growth and success I wish to see in the world.
I am a first generation minority college student but I don't let that stop me from achieving my goals. As well as being in the Cincinnatus honors program, I am a proud Darwin T. Turner Scholar, a College of Nursing Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lamba Delta chapter at UC and a College of Nursing Student Ambassador.
I may come with a lot of labels but I am much more than that. My life experiences have taught me to value my individuality even though I may belong to various group I am still unique in my own ways. I was born in Bahia Blanca, Argentina and lived there for five years before moving to the United States with my parents. When I was growing up in Virginia, I took a passion for music and learned to play the piano, viola and flute. I like to get creative by reading a good book, drawing, or listening to music. Thanks to my Hispanic culture, I am fluent in Spanish and after taking German for four years in High School, and living in Germany for a month, I can say that I am proficient in German. Besides dedicating myself to my education, I enjoy having a good laugh with friends, watching all my favorite TV shows and movies, baking and eating chocolate desserts, making spur of the moment crafts, volunteering at community events, spending hours at the library, and enjoying my weekends.
My short-term goals are to:
-have a successful year
-become involved in a new extracurricular activity
-continue with nursing research
-do more community service
-attend another conference
-discover a hidden talent
-embrace more leadership opportunities
-travel to another country
My long-term goals are to:
-graduate with honors from UC
-have a positive life-changing experience
-have a professional career I love
-visit all the continents at least once
-and make a difference in people’s lives every day
I like this quote by Dale Carnegie: “Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get” because I can identify with it.
To me it translates to: Accomplishing goals can make me feel successful, but only accomplishing the goals I truly wanted to see fulfilled can make me happy about being successful.
