The Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program was established in 1976 to honor an African American student who, at the age of 16, was the youngest person ever to graduate from the University of Cincinnati.
The scholarship program promotes academic excellence, fosters diversity and provides leadership opportunities to incoming students. In addition to providing full-tuition, Darwin T. Turner Scholars are expected to participate in programs and activities designed to improve their intellectual, personal and professional development.
I went to this walk along with the rest of my new and giant Darwin T. Turner family. We left at 8:30am to go downtown to the freedom center on a rainy morning but no amount of chilly weather could keep us down. I met most of my close friends from the Turner program at that event and we bonded before, during and after the walk. I felt like I was getting to represent the UC community and also making new memories while having a great time.
