REFLEction
For my fifth honors experience I wanted to travel and see a new part of the world so I signed up for a seminar with a travel component. This course allowed me to not only learn about a different country's culture and history but also to uncover the intricacies of another time period. I took the class during my spring semester of junior year and then in the first week of May we made the trip to Florence and Rome in Italy.
While in class we read 2 books, researched a renaissance topic of our choice, experienced renaissance culture through various forms and works of art, studied key topics such as patronage of the arts and compared relevant religious/political movements. While in Italy we visited museums and historic landmarks directly tied to what we had learned about renaissance Florence.
We had the opportunity to see and experience first-hand the amazing works of art that resulted from patronage efforts and see the way they have been preserved throughout the years. I was able to add to my travel experience and I now see the value of art and its many roles in history. This was meaningful to me because I will now live life knowing a bit more about the world we live in and I feel as though my mind has expanded to understand more about art, politics, religion, and history.
The artifact I chose to represent my experience is my presentation on poisons and their important use in renaisance Florence. I chose this artifact because it was a personal interest of mine that I was able to research and explore on my own for me and my classmate's understanding of the way life was like during the Medici rule.
