As a University and campus community there are many obligations that must be followed through in order to contribute to the success of the city of Cincinnati. Universities represent the majority of young adults that will later join the workforce; providing a good education to the city’s population of young adults is a good indicator that the city will continue to prosper in its business and many other affairs.
However, education is not the only obligation. Universities should provide the tools for members to educate themselves in a wide array of subjects and includes a collegiate library and all the study areas needed, but they also aid in increasing the work force directly. Co-op programs, such as those found at UC, increase the rate of employment amongst recent graduates and promote jobs. Research programs for undergraduates and graduates alike, aid important laboratory research and research in myriad of subjects that undoubtedly bring fame to the city’s accomplishments. Study abroad opportunities provide an eye opening experience for the up and coming CEO’s of the future and this creates worldliness within the community.
The University community also offers community services and these include pool and gym access, entertainment, community events, and most importantly they provide an ideal location for non-profit organizations to recruit volunteers and donations. The campus must also protect the city’s environment through recycling, energy conservation, and efficient use of green space. There must also be safety measures taken to protect not only the students living on campus but the city’s inhabitants surrounding the campus.
